When is a tetanus shot needed?

Every 10 years: Tetanus shots are recommended every 10 years for people older than 6 who have had the primary series. If you get a puncture wound or a wound that is contaminated with dirt or fecal material see your doctor or go to the er. Depending on your tetanus vaccine history you may need a booster shot. If you haven't had a booster with pertussis vaccine, it's recommended for your next one. It's called tdap.

In children...: ...The recommendation is a bit more frequent depending upon the severity of the laceration. It may be as frequently as 5- 7 years apart.

After Primary Imm10y: The Immunisation to prevent Tetanus is started in first yearand up to 4to6 years of age called Primary Immunisation The vaccine used is DPT(Diptheria,Teatanus,Pertussis) and protects against 3 disease.
