Correct : If you are pregnant then you do not have a period. Bleeding in pregnancy is not normal and should be evaluated. If you think your are pregnant check a pregnancy test.

A 18-year-old female asked:

If you got pregnant a week before your expected period was due will you still get your period when its due ?

Not exactly...: If a woman just got pregnant, her next period is due in 10-12 months, and yes, she should get her period when it is due in 10-12 months. That means her period that was due in a week or two (if she had not gotten pregnant) will not happen. That said, she may have some vaginal spotting or bleeding during pregnancy, but that is not a true menstrual period, even though it is blood from her vagina.

Should: The periods can vary a bit from month to month. If you are having a period each month you are probably ovulating and you should be able to conceive. Be patient and be taking a vitamin that contains folic acid.

Periods: A period is the physical definition of not being pregnant. Pregnancy stops vaginal bleeding.
A 20-year-old female asked:

Would you know if you were five and a half months pregnant? And would you still get a normal period?

1 doctor answer1 doctor weighed in
Dr. Peter Baumann

Typically not: If you are really 5.5 months pregnant, you should feel the baby move. While it is rare, occasionally there are women who experience menstrual period like bleeding throughout their entire pregnancy. More often than that, women may have one, two or three menses into their pregnancies. A home pregnancy test would tell you if you are pregnant at all.
