Alcoholism DTs: Hi i am so happy you got your brother some help. The longer he goes without drinking the less you have to worry. In most cases getting sober and staying sober gives one their health back and their life, their relationships, and their joy back.

Possible: Alcoholism severe enough to lead to the dts is associated with some nerve cell loss, whether significant enough to measure and permanent, one cannot tell without repeat testing. Of greater concern, however, is the high mortality rate associated with the dts. Immediate medical care--as you have made available--is life-saving. Very best going forward.

He needs to follow : Up with his GI and neurologist. There could be irreversible brain damage. Let the dr examine him thoroughly. I'd suggest for him to take vitamin b complex which contains thiamine/ vitamin b1 & milk thistle supplements . He has to consider going into rehab for detox and later join AAA for emotional and psychological support. God bless him! (pls read link below).
