Yes and no: These chemicals mimic adrenaline & function of sympathetic part of autonomic nervous system, which arouses fight & flight responses. Amphetamines can provide exhilaration & sense of energy & empowerment. But this is an illusion that comes crashing down when they wear off. They can be addictive & are best avoided. There are safer medications for depression, and counseling is also effective.

Selectively: In certain individuals and only in combination with standard antidepressants, psychostimulants may be be a helpful adjunct. This method should only be used if the depression is otherwise treatment resistant and under the close supervision of a psychiatrist with experience.
