Gum disease : You stated your gum swollen and lethargic , you have to see your family doctor and your dentists, could be severe periodontal disease , or other systemic disease , don't waite , many diseases their symptoms appears in the oral cavity.

Lots of things!: Anything from a virus, to a bacterial infection to other things can cause the symptoms you mention. If you have any risk factors for herpes or hiv, you should be checked immediately. But without further information, it is impossible to diagnose any one cause.
