Two types: Gout should be treated in the painful stage with antiinflammatories such as indomethicin, and colchicine, and then a long term medicine such as Allopurinol should be used to suppress the attacks and build up of uric acid deposits. Colchicine: For acute attacks of gout, best treatment is colchicine. Nsaids such as Indocin (indomethacin) can also help. Allopurinol is a medication used to treat chronic gout. It should not be started when there is an active flare as it can worsen the flare.
