Which meds?: Uricosurics like Allopurinol or uloric need to be taken for a very long time. Colchine until symptoms resolve. Nsaids like Indocin (indomethacin) for a week.

Gout: . . . Can cause very painful flares of pain and swelling. The underlying problem is high uric acid levels in the blood. The urate deposits in the joints and other tissues causing inflammation and pain or sometimes no symptoms at all. Elevated uric acid can be from diet or it may be genetic. So . . . You may need medications for short term or long term.
