In some ways: Some bipolar people experience severe depression and need antidepressants at times. However, they also need mood stabilizing medications because they also have periods of mania or hypomania at other times. Someone with depressive episodes alone (no mania or hypomania) would need only antidepressants and no mood stabilizers.
