A member asked:

I am 9 weeks pregnant.. i just came up with a really bad cold. hered that tylenol (acetaminophen) was safe to take but is tylenol (acetaminophen) cold and flu okay as well ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Risk/Benefit: Many women take it during pregnancy with no adverse affects. Dextromethorphan is category c, along with the other two ingredients in tylenol (acetaminophen) cold multi-symptom severe, phenylephrine hcl and guaifenesin. Since three out of four ingredients in the severe medication and two of three in the daytime prep are category c would be cautious (category c shows toxicity in animal studies). Your call.
