Umm, hard to say....: Without actually examining your son for a more precise answer, this raises some interesting possibilities. If the tonsil area is tender or red, the hair may be some foreign body such as a fishbone. If the tonsils do not look inflamed or reddened, perhaps this is dried mucus from the nasopharynx above. However, in my 30 years of practice, I have seen some unusual things...This may be a hair indeed.
