I am 25yrs old & 35weeks pregnant.my hb is 8.6.my doctor is suggesting blood transfusion in 37week.is it safe is it a regular practice these days?

Anemia: If other means of increasing your HGB are not possible, you may require blood transfusiion. Has your total serum iron been tested. Are you not able to tolerate oral iron. You may be a candidate for parenteral iron (given by IV route).

Try oral first: Is better always to increae it by ingestion the deficient elements; iron b12, folate (folic acid) . During pregnancy the iron loads decrease to get it to the baby. If iron is low try supplement it first & consistent a transfusion is the last resource.
