Yes: Meniscus tears can occur from an acute injury or due to degeneration over time. Tears can cause pain and mechanical symptoms (locking, popping, etc). If the pain warrants, i recommend an evaluation by an orthopedist.

Possible: There are several types of meniscal tears (see pic). Some meniscal tears occur with acute injury and some as degenerative changes (over time). A deep squat could cause injury, or cause irritation of a tear from another source. Common symptoms include pain, swelling, clicking/ popping, locking/ catching, giving way, and/ or limited range of motion. Hope this helps.

YES: The center of rotation of the knee is not a hinge, it's a continuously changing center deeper squat throw wt 2 outside of both sides of knee & posteriorly. What's there is posterior horns of meniscii. Any twist or rotation puts them at risk. Keep angle @ 90 and no more, also no twist-rotation. U might google this center of rotation 2 see a diagram of it. Also lots of stress on patello-fem joint.
