Risk assessment: Tests used depends on your risk and if you have any symptoms. Your doctor will start by doing a history and physical exam. If there is still a suspicion after this he/she will order either blood work, ecg, a stress test or cardiac ct, or any combination of the above. It is possible that after the history & physical your doctor determines that you do not even need any of these tests.

Options: The gold stndrd is "cardiac cath, " where tiny wire & tube are fed from artery in groin or arm to vessels of heart and dye is injected by fluoroscopy to create a roadmap of heart's vessels--can also open / stent narrow/clogged arteries. Other ways are indirect & include ct scan that looks for calcium in heart vessels (=blockage) or a nuclear med study looking for uptake by heart muscle.
