Many causes : Hip or knee joint problems could cause pain in this area. Bursa, ligament, tendon and/or muscle injury could also be the culprit. A nerve impingement must also be ruled out. If the pain does not resolve in a reasonable amount of time, an evaluation by an orthopedist or your primary care provider may be warranted.
