Can be: Nothing is 100%, but pneumonia is usually one of the more treatable infections. Depending on response, the usual course of antibiotics is 7 days, if he hasn't been in a hospital or exposed to healthcare in the last 3 months or so; patients often feel markedly better within 48 hours. His chronic drinking may put him more at risk for things like aspiration, which increases the risk of pneumonia.
