A member asked:

Can excessive lymph node swelling in an unrelated area be a sign of cancer elsewhere , or would this only present at a very advanced stage?

Lymph Node Swelling: At your age, the most likely causes are a viral illness like mononucleosis or some other inflammatory or infectious process, not cancer. You didn't say where the swollen nodes were and where the other area affected was. These details could help narrow the focus.

It is possible: If you have no history of cancer, swelling of lymph nodes is most likely not due to cancer. It is much more likely a result of inflammation (infections, injury, etc.) that said, you should definitely get checked out by your physician.
