Many possibilities: Your pain could be as a result of many different things. Causes of pain may include: trauma (fracture, sprain, arthritis, tight shoes)infection, metabolic conditions (gout), musculoskeletal or biomechanical abnormality and neurologic conditions (neuropathy). A thorough history and physical exam and possibly some laboratory and radiology exams may be needed to determine the exact cause.

Consultant : This unexplained pain must be seen by a foot and ankle specialist or pcp. First did any trauma occur or maybe chronic injury is worsening. You must get diagnostic testing such as an x-ray to rule out fracture or mri/us to rule out ankle sprain/strain. A thorough physical exam must be done as well. I would wear an ankle brace before seeing your local foot doc.
