Aneurysm: A 3.5cm aortic root is not really an aneurysm, it is the upper end of the width of the aorta at that spot. To call that small an aorta an aneurysm the wall would have to be abnormal and known to be. As far as rupture, generally we don't begin to worry until they are more than 4.5cm and start thinking surgery at 5cm or above.
