A member asked:

Would floating stool caused by fat sink after a few minutes? worried its fat not gas. had stool tests including fecal fat test but not 72hr one normal

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Floater or Sinker: The sinkability of stool depends on the amount of air/gas, not the amount of fat, although vary fatty stools will tend to float. Are you having any symptoms? What was the reason you had test to begin with? Of course, celiac disease needs to be ruled out, but dietary changes which affect the population of gas forming bacteria in the gut can also be in play. Your md will sort it out.
