Low iodine diet: The thyroid scan involves a small amount of radioactive iodine. You don't want to flood your system with regular iodine. Avoid i-containing foods: kelp, vitamins with iodine, dairy products, eggs, iodized salt. This is hard to do, since salt is in everything. If the scan is for hyperthyroidism or to work up a nodule, don't worry about it. If it is related to thyroid cancer, stick to the diet.
