Yes if extensive: Most thyroid cancer is slow growing and relatively easy to treat. But like any cancer, it can be aggressive and metastasize all over and cause weight loss, cachexia. Anaplastic and medulary cancer of thyroid are the worst.

It can : In 2 ways: 1. If the cancer has spread to distant organs- especially if it is affecting the liver- yes, extreme weight loss can happen. 2. If- after therapy- which is complete removal of throid glands- you are taking too much thyroid hormone- then you can also lose your weight
