Can't be removed: Keloid scars can perhaps be reduced and improved but not totally removed. These may need to be removed surgically and then you likely will need a series of cortisone injections to try and keep it from regrowing. There are other treatments for those which regrow but some cannot be completely controlled. You should see a surgeon experienced in keloid management.

You can't . . .: . . .But your plastic surgeon has the best way to try to minimize the recurrence--careful excision, precise closure, avoidance of irritation or inflammation that stimulates keloid formation, followed by steroid injections, pressure therapy, and even radiation therapy. There is no "easy" or correct solution or we all would be using it!

Keloid Rx: The safest approach is silicone tape/gel (myscaraway, from walgreens/online), steroid/bleomycin injections immunosuppressant/chemotherapyagent) only in pro hands, electron-beam radiotherapy, almost never excision unless radiotherapy can be guaranteed within 24hr after excision. Be very careful or it will be made worse by cutting it! close follow up for 2yrs+ to monitor for recurrence essential!
