So sorry!: If your embryo measured 7 weeks 5 days on ultrasound and there was no heart beat, then unfortunately yes, it is a miscarriage. If the fetus measure considerably smaller (5 weeks) a repeat ultrasound can be performed in a week to make sure your dates are not just off.

Possibly: A fetal heart beat is usually seen by 5 weeks by tv ultrasound. Some obstetricians may get a second scan at a hospital or imaging center to determine if the heart beat is present. Serial blood tests may also indicate whether the pregnancy is progressing normally.
