How to treat bipolar?

Find a Doctor: Educate yourself & find a doctor you can have a good rapport with so you can begin the process of healing. Join a support group & see how others deal with things. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Pay attention to nutrition, sleep hygiene, exercise. Seek complete remission of symptoms --- don't be satisfied with just a reduction of symptoms.

Bipolar treatment: There are many ways to treat bipolar disorder, including with therapy, a healthy lifestyle, and medications. Regarding the latter, mood stabilizers are the treatment of choice. These include medications like lithium, depakote, lamictal, trileptal, and tegretol, to name some. Antipsychotics such as abilify, zyprexa, risperdal, geodon, seroquel, latuda, invega, and saphris (asenapine) are also commonly used.

Many options: There are many different treatments for bipolar disorder and it is always a matter of finding the best treatment for you. A mood stabilizer is the core treatment, but psychotherapy to help you understand the disorder and it's effect on you, your relationships, and lifestyle is also important.

Bio, psycho, social: The causes of mood disorders arise over development from biology, psychology, and social factors. Similarly you need to make sure the treatment of mood utilizes all three. Are you making sure your biology is working optimally with exercise and avoiding trigger foods, taking meds? Are you keeping your psychology in check with therapy and mental training? Is your social life supportive or harmful?

Many steps...: 1. Find a psychiatrist and therapist u trust. 2. U will have to take mood-stabilizers indefinitely. Ur psychiatrist can help you find the right ones (sometimes by trying different ones) 3. Talk therapy to help manage stressors 4. Maintain healthy, sable daily routine. 5. Avoid drugs/alcohol. 6. Stay involved with friends/family. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Mood stabilizers: Mood stabilizers are used to treat bipolar disorder. Lithium and depakote would be two examples of mood stabilizers but there are others, depending on symptoms, and depending on what works for the patient.
