Nail fungus: Your doctor can prescribe medication that you can take daily for 6 or 12 weeks depending on where the nail fungus is-hands or feet.

Your first step is: To get the nail(s) cultured. 70% of toenail fungus is caused by one particular fungus which has a genetic tendency and is notorious for returning after treatment. Oral medication is the only approved "cure." laser will make them look great, but doesn't kill the fungus. Topical stuff doesn't work. Pulse therapy Lamisil (terbinafine) (7 days of treatment every 3 months) has the same cure rate.

Many options: There are many treatments available. Topical and oral medications can be used but must be used as prescribed to have any success. Laser treatment is also available and can be effective. That being said, the older we are the more difficult it is to get rid of it. One must be very patient regardless of the treatment. Curing nail fungus is a slow process that takes months to even over a year.
