Possible reasons: Everyone responds differently to the medications used for IV sedation. Some patients are very calm and quiet when sedated and have a very comfortable procedure. Some patients become very agitated and belligerent when sedated, making it difficult to perform surgery safely and/or comfortably. Certain medications and/or social habits can also affect how IV medications work as well.

Level of sedation: Sedation is a continuum. You may have needed more medication to get you toa deeper level of sedation than you doctor was comfortable providing. Talk with the doctor about this. You may require general anesthesia.

Provider: Your provider was probably performing dental work and anesthesia at the same time. He did not feel safe to administer more medication, which can be related to his expertise, your away or equipment in the office. He did a right think, keeping it safe.
