Psoriasis: There are many effective treatments for psoriasis. Psoriasis is due to an alteration in the cytokine signaling from the immune system that increases the proliferation of the epidermis. You can regulate the immune signal or you can stop cell proliferation. All treatments have side effects. Generally the stronger and more effective the treatment the bigger the potential side effect. See a dermatologist: There are extremely effective treatments available for psoriasis. The most appropriate one often depends on the severity of the disease and whether psoriatic arthritis is present as well. Have a dermatoloigst coordinate the care. If the disease is extensive, consider a tnf agent such as Humira or remicade (infliximab). Topical agents are the least effective.
