BPH Antihistamines: Chronic sinusitis in a 60 plus years old male with bph. Antihistamine drugs are vaso constrictors, hence forth will make BPH symptoms worse. There are no safe antihistamines, but non-antihistamines like claritin, allegra, zyrtec are better & safe. I would strongly recommend cortisone nasal sprays, like Flonase or nasonex, (mometasone) with no side effects.

New generation: New generation antihistamines such as Loratadine (claritin), Cetirizine (zyrtec) and fexofenadine (allergra) are safe and effective for allergies. These do not have anticholinergic properties which is what a person wants to avoid if they have bph. Use caution with decongestants and avoid first generation antihistamines like benadryl (diphenhydramine).
