Rarely: Not certain of the question but the reported incidence of a fibroid becoming a sarcoma (cancer) is reported from 1/1000 to 2/10, 000 depending on the study.

Unlikely: Fibroids by definition are benign, although there are cancerous varieties of those tumors. Some atypical fibroids can transform in to cancer if not removed.
