Maybe nothing.: You may have iced too long and caused some local redness, or erythema. If it's from the icing, it will fade quickly. It is possible to ice too long and cause an ice burn to the skin. Go with 20" of ice at a time, with breaks in between.

Icing too long!: You may be icing your ankle for too long and causing frostbite. Try wrapping the ice pack or ice in a towel before placing it on your skin. Only ice for 15 minutes on then 15 minutes off.
