Family practice : Insulin resistance or metabolic syndrome may cause these symptoms but it is usually associated with fatigue , weight gain and sluggish feeling. You are producing larger amounts of Insulin because it is less effective. Your body senses it needs more to get food into cells to burn it off. Include protein in your diet. Metformin is used for this if you are prediabetic.

Maybe: I would be much more worried about hypoglycemia in a diabetic with those symptoms. Seek medical attention and get the blood sugar tested. Remember that too low a blood sugar can be very dangerous. Insulin resistance describes physiologic changes that occur in type 2 (primarily) diabetics.
