Maybe not: Losing acquired language skill and head banging certainly raise concern. Your child's primary care physician may even consider referral to a developmental specialist or to neurologist.

Delayed language: He should be evaluated by a behavioral pediatrician or a child psychologist if he is not speaking at 21 months of age. He should also have a hearing screen if one hasn't been done.

He is not OK: It soulds like your child has regressed, clearly this is a big concern and he needs to be evaluated by someone familiar with autism spectrum disorders, head banging is most commonly seen at that age in children with sensory processing problems. This is not something to wait and see with.
