Chondromalacia: This is thinning of the cartilage under your knee cap. Very common in your age group. This is helped with quad strengthening exercises, but you need to see your doctor to rule our a more serious issue.

Patellofemoral: Generally knee pain in the front area of the knee in young woman is related to the knee cap cartilage. Can be from cartilage injuries from instability or other sources.
