Necessary: Vitamin c is one of the thirteen essential vitamins the body needs to function properly. The best sources are citrus fruits, kiwi, broccoli, etc. It can help prevent colds but doesn't help once you have one. Smokers tend to be deficient in vitamin c. Best to get your natural vitamin c surrounded by other nutrients from food instead of synthetic version found in pills.

OnlyIf Deficient: Vitamin C will help if you are deficient due to not getting daily requirement through your food.Since there are sommany sources of vitamin d including citrus food.apples,strawberries,Acerola Cherries,papayas,black current,kiwi, and others, Some people believe it helps with cold but according to studies you have to take several thousand mgm of this vitamin for that purpose.
