Cold: You can actually ice too much. I've had patients give themselves frostbite by applying an ice pack directly to the skin for prolonged periods of time. You should have a light cloth layer between the ice pack and skin and only leave it in contact for about 20 minutes per hour.

Ice: Possible you had the ice on to long and can cause pain, burns ect.
