Herpes and Sex: This is a vital question and I am glad you asked it. About 75% of americans have been exposed to the "oral" herpes virus...Now known as herpes type one. You can transmit this virus at unpredictable times whether you have an outbreak or not. You can only transmit it from the skin you have been infected at. It is wise to get the blood tests and your partner to know his status as well. Get tested!

See below: If the virus is limited to chin/lips, then highly unlikely he's contract it thru intercourse. But if there's the possibility of the virus also being present in genital area, then he could easily become infected. Better to use protection. Cdc guidelines for hpv vaccine put him (if he's over 21) beyond the recommended age. If he develops blisters, should see doc for suppressive antiviral med.
