See doctor: Nice question , no way find out mucus origin but at least of you have sinus problem bothering you than most likely it is sinus disease, you should be seen by pulmonologist or your physician for proper treatment that will bring your symptoms under control.

Mucus: Mucus from the sinuses will typically result in post nasal drip which causes throat clearing/ coughing/sensation that something is draining whereas mucus from the airway typically is coughed up. Sinus drainage can actually result in increased cough with mucus production as coughing is way to clear the mucus from the lungs. But yes from either source can cause problems with breathing.
