PCOS?: If your don't have diabetes or pre diabetes, are you taking the metformin for pcos? Metformin has remarkably free of adverse effects and is very safe when taken properly. 500 mg, however, will do little to help you. Metformin (except time release) must be taken twice/day, and the most effective dose (if tolerated) is 2000 mg/day. Check w/your doctor.
