Gastroenteritis: Most cases are bacterial or viral and should be treated symptomatically. Imodium (loperamide) helps the diarrhea. Carbonated beverages help the nausea and vomiting. If you continue to vomit you need an anti vomiting medicine from a doctor. Severe cases are unusual in adults and can lead to dehydration requiring IV fluids.
