No weight for 2-4 wk: A sesamoid bone is usually removed for a fracture that doesnot heal, avascular necrosis (dead bone) or severe arthritis. There are 2 so one out is ok.The incision may be on the side or bottom of the foot so it is uncomfortable for about 2-4 weeks. An orthotic may be required post operatively to make up for the loss of the bone and physical therapy to regain motion and function.
