Tendon swelling: Trigger finger or thumb occurs when the digital flexor tendon begins to swell, from either trauma or overuse. As it swells it becomes stuck at the entrance of the finger, based in the palm at the base of the finger. Treatment is rest, antinflammatories, occasionally steroid injections, or a simple trigger release which requires opening up that tunnel entrance into the finger.

Very good success: Trigger finger surgery involves releasing the tight tunnel the tendon travels through to minimize any discomfort or popping sensation when moving your finger. The surgery can be performed with the traditional open technique or the new endoscopic treatments. There is even an in office procedure that is performed under ultrasound guidance. http://fitzhand.com/our-services/endotendon-procedures/trigg.

Trigger finger: /thumb occurs when the pulley at the base of the finger becomes too thick and constricting around the tendon, making it hard for the tendon to move freely through the pulley. Sometimes the tendon develops a nodule the increased resistance to the gliding of the tendon through the pulley, one may feel pain, popping, or a catching feeling in the finger or thumb. Surgery is to divide the pulley.
