Sleep study: You may consider a sleep study to see why you are grinding your teeth. Some people grind their teeth to bring their lower jaw forward so they can breath better and they grind their teeth as they do this. Check with you dentist.

Talk: Speak frankly with your dentist: no one needs braces, but many people would benefit from orthodontic correction. Ask your dentist for a referral to an orthodontist, and be truthful about why you feel you need them. As an adult, you can make the decision to have treatment, no matter how mild or severe the problems are.

Question: I wonder why your teeth are hurting. Having braces will not get rid of tooth pain. Something else is going on and i would see a dentist who can determine why your teeth hurt when you go to sleep.

Take control: You don't need your dentist's permission to seek help outside the box. If you feel that an orthodontic consultation is in order, simply call an orthodontist. The orthodontist will work with your a family dentist to provide you with the best care possible.
