Usually not at all: With few exceptions, root canal therapy (rct) should be free of pain. Local anesthetic should eliminate all discomfort (if you feel anything, you must alert dentist). Afterwards, there is often no pain (the procedure, many times, is meant to treat pain), but if any exists, pain medication should take care of it. Don't fear the treatment.

Not painful: Root canal treatment is just like most other dentist visits. You are given Lidocaine to get "numb" and then treatment can take 45 min to 1 hr and may be completed in one visit or two. There is no pain while you are numb and little following treatment. Most patients get relief from the toothache that brought them to the dentist in the first place.

Times have changed : Root canals have changed in the past 10 yrs . People have gave root canals a bad reputation from all of the story's that your parents or grandparents may have told you or that you may have over heard. The procedure is very painless now with more technology that makes it quicker an much smoother then before.

It is not painful: As along as the doctor that is performing the procedure is competent and well trained, then usually it runs smooth and painless. You can consider seeing a doctor that specializes in root canals (endodontist) if you are apprehensive.
