BNP: Bnp is brain natriuretic protein, when measured in CHF patients it is elevated if the CHF isn't well controlled. Some data suggests it may be useful in gauging therapy for chf. Sometimes it isn't clear whether a patient has CHF and if the bnp is low, this is evidence against CHF being present. Bnp also has some possible application in other conditions.

Blood test: In general terms BNP can be interpreted as follows •A normal BNP level makes the diagnosis of Heart Failure unlikely (rule out test) •A high BNP level makes the diagnosis of HF very likely (rule in or confirm test) •Intermediate values of BNP require careful interpretation, in light of patients age (consider age-adjusted cut-off values) and co-existing conditions.
