Muscle relaxant: Benzodiazepines like Ativan (lorazepam) don't treat pain directly. But they can help 2 other ways: by decreasing the mental suffering associated with pain, and by helping muscles relax. Remember that like other benzos, Ativan is habit-forming if used daily and consistently over time; once tolerance develops it can be hard to stop. It's quite safe if used occasionally at low doses.
