I had on pe 3 1/2 years ago i was on blood thinners for 6 months . what are the odds i would have a 2nd one? what can i do without pills to prevent?

Pulmonary embolus: It is possible you could have a 2nd especially if you're not on warfarin any more. You should keep well hydrated and follow diet and exercise for health. I'd suggest wearing support hose also. There is some evidence Aspirin may help also though less documentation than for warfarin or the new agents.

No tobacco: Be assessed for an congenital hypercoagulable state: protein c & s, Antithrombin iii, homocysteine levels, lupus anticoagulant, prothrombin 20210a gene, anticardiolipin antibody, antiphospholipid antibody, pt/ptt/platelets. Avoid tobacco and oral contraceptives (high estrogen) as each promote clotting.
