The most important way to prevent recurrence of the fissure is to avoid constipation and hard stool , by eating a high fiber diet ,drinking extra fluids and engaging in regular exercise . Other causes of a recurrent fissure can be diagnosed by a careful examination , with further testing , like anoscopy and colonoscopy ,as indicated . In such cases, specific treatment would be given.

Lots of bright red blood when wiping. Noticed small tear near anus. Fissure? I would assume the bleeding was not internal. Bleeding now stopped.

Your reasoning is: sound. If recurs, let the doc take a look. Keep stool soft and avoid constipation/straining to prevent recurrence.
