Torn meniscus: Sounds like you have a torn meniscus, one of the cartilage structures in your knee. They can be associated with symptoms of locking and clicking of the knee as well as swelling from a joint effusion. Usually treated via arthroscopic surgery known as a meniscectomy if symptomatic.

Possibly: If the area of abnormality seen on the MRI correlatates with your symptoms and findings on exam it means you have a symotomatic meniscal tear. The meniscus is a rubber-like material that helps a rounded bone (femur) conform the a flat surface. It can tear with an injury or with age. If it displaces it can cause the knee to lock eps. Inhibiting ability to straight knee. Arthroscopiy can be used.
