A member asked:

My little toe is curling inward. it rubs against the adjacent toe. my shoes are roomy. do any over-the-counter toe straighteners work?

Yes (kinda): If your concern is pain, many of the over the counter products help. However, they do not correct the diformity- it would be the equivalent of using corrective lenses, they only help while they are in use but don't solve the underlying issues. These types of pathologies seldom resolve themselves without surgical intervention, but splinting may offer enough relief to get you through the day.

No: Otc toe straighteners do not straighten toes. They can cushion the area but that's all. The cause is complicated but the easiest answer is the tendons aren't pulling properly. Surgery is the only way to straighten the toe v.
