A member asked:

Had a heart cath. told i had a thickened heart muscle. how serious? can i reduce thickness?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes: Heart cath does not diagnose a thickened heart muscle. An echocardiogram or ultrasound does, unless it is a more serious condition known as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. The more common condition is LVH or hypertrophy of the heart which is caused by uncontrolled high blood pressure. Reversing the blood pressure can reverse some of the LVH particularly with ace inhibitors.
